My boys love this time of year, as we countdown Christmas with a different dish or dessert that they help prepare. My younger son is always amazed at what we create, because it all comes from the pantry or freezer; as he puts it, ” How do you make something out of nothing, mom?”
It reminds me of the story of how a young teen mother, with nothing but the clothes on her back, and a young man who trusted in a higher power to guide him bravely through a harsh countryside away from a king who would kill his baby boy if given the chance. They had ‘nothing’, folks nowadays might say, yet they created a warm, safe environment with which to receive a gift for all of mankind.
We forget in our hustle and bustle, that this season is a story of survival through travesty, of hope where there was only the promise of death, and kindness from strangers.
How can we say that the bible is obsolete?
Do I think every piece of history lies in this black book we call a bible? No, I don’t.
I do, however, believe that we are wise to find a quiet time to look within and see how God would speak to our hearts, and allow the lesson of our suffering to unfold into strength and peace.
May you find blessings and love in whatever path is yours to follow.
